Dear Friend

Dear Friend,

I love you. I love you so much. I’m always struck with awe on realizing the things you do for me. I’m scared I won’t be able to do the same when called upon. You stuck with me even though I was the butt of every class joke. You were the only one who never called me a dummy during our school days. I can’t count the number of times Mom and Dad did that. You are the brother I never had. The type of Brother in that Coca-Cola advertisement. The one who protects his younger brother from bullies and then tips the bottle over his brother’s mouth . I love you Friend.

We are older now. You are still here for me. You are still pushing me to do things that I actually think are above my limits. I can’t picture my life without you. I’m sure you are every guys dream friend. You are the one who pushed me to talk to that girl at Tola’s wedding. We are engaged now. The preparation for our wedding is in top gear. I know you will be wondering why I’m pouring my emotions out this way. I know you will say only girls act these  way. My mouth is failing me these days.

The elders say the matter we hide from father will eventually be brought to Father’s front. What do we do if the Father is the matter? They don’t tell us. It happened last week. I’ve been trying to tell you since then but there is always a lump in my throat. The words are too heavy that they seem to gag my throat. Perhaps that is why I’ve been coughing anytime I’m with you recently. I know my pen won’t fail me. It is the one you love and cherish. It is your half caste girlfriend, the one you plan to marry. I caught her with My Dad last week. They did it on the sofa in his office. I say no more.

Yours sincerely,

Friend.
